The term extended reality encompasses three types of realities: virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR).

• Virtual reality: the users find themselves in a 360-degree computer-generated virtual world. More widely recognized in the world of video games, VR experiences are particularly immersive. The use of a VR headset and controllers to navigate within the virtual environment allows the user to be truly immersed in this new environment.

• Augmented reality: augmented reality enriches our perception by superimposing elements of the physical and virtual worlds in 3D. This reduces the cognitive effort involved in 2D/3D conversion and paves the way for natural interactions, such as voice or eye tracking, going beyond the methods inherited from touch screens and virtual reality.

• Mixed reality: mixed reality combines real and virtual elements in a single environment where both interact in real time.
